OUTDOOR PLACEMENTS - UK & IRELAND

Outdoor placements offer an outdoor experience for children in the 8 to 15 year age bracket with the largest outdoor centres in the UK.  The children participate in recreational activities such as rock climbing, kayaking, rope work, orienteering, water sports and many more where the children can gain confidence and ability to work as part of a team.   Although it is helpful to have experience, it is not essential as full training will be provided.  We also offer positions for office work, catering and maintenance areas, so if you like the idea of being involved with an outdoor placement but perhaps don’t wish to work outdoors then this is a possible option.

LENGTH OF PLACEMENT:

The placement generally is for 3 to 6 months but may be available for 9 months.  Outdoor placements are for the summer months and commence in mid to late March through to late April and finish in September.  Those who have a birthday in the latter part of the year will be able to start when they turn 18.

ACCOMMODATION:

This may be part of the main building or in cabins, usually as a shared room.  Occasionally you may take a group camping.  Your accommodation is still yours even during holiday times and you are able to leave your possessions behind or even stay in the accommodation for part of the time if you make arrangements with your mentor.

REMUNERATION:

Each outdoor placement is different but before you agree to take the placement offered you will be advised the amount the remuneration will be.  You will also have free accommodation and food supplied and there may be opportunities to work overtime and earn additional wage.

HOLIDAYS AND TRAVEL:

Outdoor placements do not have scheduled holidays but it is possible to negotiate time off.  It is advisable to accumulate time off.  You may have the option to work at one placement and then have a break and then go on to work at another.  The opportunity to travel before and after your placement may be possible.

BOARDING SCHOOLS - NZ

New Zealand is renowned for its vast scenic and tourist attractions, sporting and cultural history.  Many of the schools offer a variety of activities that incorporate these elements into their curriculum.  You are encouraged to participate in all facets of school life to reap the benefits and rewards of your tutorship.

We are seeking tutors between the ages of 18 – 25 years of age at the time of commencing your placement in New Zealand.

Placements are usually in Secondary schools which educate young adults from year 9 to year 13.  In most cases your work load will be shared between the boarding hostel and day school environment.

LENGTH OF PLACEMENT:

Short term placements begin in the last week of January or the first week in February and end in August.  We also offer 12 month placements beginning in August and ending in August of the following year.

ACCOMMODATION:

New Zealand Schools have two types of accommodation; hostels located on school grounds or a homestay where you will reside with a family involved with the school in which you are placed.

REMUNERATION:

All New Zealand schools pay approximately NZD 120.00 = £46.00* per week plus your accommodation and food expenses.  Most schools continue to pay during the vacation period.

HOLIDAYS AND TRAVEL:

The holidays are at Easter and then 2-3 weeks during different times of the year.  Schools are generally closed late December until the end of January.  Travelling throughout New Zealand is relatively easy.  New Zealand roads generally do not have the congestion issues like the UK but may be experienced in our major cities.  Many tutors buy and share cars and it is desirable to hold a full licence before travelling to New Zealand.  There are some fantastic tour operators that offer competitively priced adventure packages.
